FDG 2013, the 8th International Conference on the Foundations of Digital Games, is a focal point for academic efforts in all areas of research and education involving games, game technologies, gameplay, and game design. The goal of the conference is the advancement of the study of digital games, including new game technologies, capabilities, designs, applications, educational uses, and modes of play. Welcome to the Games Research Lab, part of the School of Computer Science of McGill University. Computer game research is a new and exciting area for computer science research. Games introduce a variety of interesting research challenges. These include algorithm and software design concerns with respect to efficient and playable game implementations, and also more abstract approaches to modelling and analyzing different facets of game structure.

We invite contributions on all aspects of generating game content, using any method. Both descriptions of new algorithms, theoretical or critical analysis and empirical studies of implementations and applications are welcome.
